The seeds were ground and soaked in methanol and dichloromethane for 72 h. The extract was then filtered, dried on a rotary evaporator at 45 °C, under reduced pressure. The methanolic crude extract from P. cubeba (33.64 grams) was separated by column chromatography on silica gel (Merck Kiesegel 60) and eluted with increasing proportions of hexane, dichloromethane and methanol. Fractions that had similar profiles on the TLC plates were pooled.
