Real data was provided by a Brazilian molded pulp plant which produces packaging for eggs and fruits in a large-scale process. The data collected correspond to 12 instances related to a production line dedicated to produce 5 different types of egg boxes. For all the instances, the planning horizon considered comprises one month (i.e. T ¼4 weeks), and each week has 4 sub-periods of variable length (i.e. jStj¼4 8t 2T). The number of sub-periods was defined based on the maximum changeovers intended by the production planner in each week, considering the high setup times involved. The proposed model was implemented in GAMS 24.0.2 and solved using CPLEX 12.5.0 in the Windows 7 environment on an Intel i7 2.80GHz 8 GB RAM. All computational tests were run in a time limit of 10,800 s per instance.
