Storage of rice bran is a critical factor in rice bran oil industry.
The lipase activity should be either controlled or inhibitedto avoid growth of FFA in rice bran. Several stabilization methods
were experimented and rice bran oil yield was compared.
Steaming, hot air drying, refrigeration and chemical stabilization
are suitable methods for lipase inactivation. However,
steaming shows the best results with only 3% reduction in oil
yield after 50 days in comparison with 89% oil reduction for
unstabilized bran.
Characteristic analysis of rice bran oil extracted and comparison
with other commonly used oils showed that aqueous
extracted rice bran oil has a low (0.01%) free fatty acid content
compared to hexane extracted rice bran oil and other
commercially available vegetable oils.
