Halloween is a very old festival that celebrated going from the "lighter half of the year" (spring and summer, also warmer and the growing season) to the "darker half of the year" (autumn and winter, also colder and when many things don't grow).
Some people celebrated it as the Celtic New Year."Snap-Apple Night" is a painting of what a possible Celtic New Year celebration could have looked like. it was a time to make sure that you had plenty of food for winter. Halloween is mainly celebrated in the United States. Children wear costumes, carve Jack o' lanterns from pumpkins, go trick-or-treating and have parties around bonfires. A trick is usually a joke or riddle and treats are usually fruit or candy.
