CONCEPTS
We describe key concepts of Diffusion of Innovations in two categories: (1) foundational concepts and stages of diffusion (Table 14.1) and (2) characteristics of innovations that determine diffusion (Table 14.2). Diffusion and dissemination are distinct concepts, as described at the beginning of this chapter; diffusion is the process by which an innovation is communicated through certain channels over time among mein bers of a social system (Rogers, 2003), whereas dissemination involves planned, systematic efforts to maximize the reach and adoption of new programs, strategies, or. policies. Diffusion is also the outcome of dissemination efforts .
