The electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
of a switchboard is its ability to function in a
disturbed environment while limiting its own
disruptive emissions.
Electromagnetic disturbances are potential
sources of malfunctioning for all electronic
materials:
--regulators and measuring devices that
deal with analogue signals,
--PLCs and communication interfaces
that deal with digital signals.
Overall performance is obtained by:
--reducing disturbances at the source,
which can also be from outside
the switchboard,
--protecting information exchanged with
the process throughout their routing in
the switchboard,
--preserving the entry into the
switchboard of radiated and
conducted disturbances.
