3.1.2. BPP main stems are more prone than normal stems to produce
BPP axillary stems
The occurrence of stems with BPP features on a particular plant
was variable and unpredictable. In order to test if BPP stems are
more prone to produce BPP axillary stems, the development of
axillary stems was induced by removing stage 1 or 2 flower buds
from normal and BPP stems (Fig. 4a). Indeed, the frequency of BPP
axillary stems developing from BPP main stems was significantly
higher than that for BPP stems developing from normal stems
(Fig. 4b; G = 4.23, DF = 1, P = 0.04).
