Tourism-related policies and programmes
The main thrusts of tourism policy
Tourism policy was outlined by the Secretary of State for Tourism at a Council of
Ministers meeting in August 2011. The main thrusts of the policy are:
● Renovating and modernising tourism products. This entails a reform introduced
in 2009 for developing and modernising tourism services – encouraging upgrading and
quality enhancement, and the renovation of holiday accommodation. In addition, the
government is encouraging the wider adoption of the “Tourism Quality” label (granted to
5 400 tourist accommodation establishments and sites as of mid-2011).
