This United States Fulbright sponsored project, conducted in collaboration with the faculty
Of psychology at Chulalongkorn University, attempted to develop and validate a new Thai screening
Instrument for developmental disabilities in children birth to age three.
The 25 item inventory, called the Chulalongkorn Developmental Screening Instrument
(Chula DSI), was based on parent reporting of signs and symptoms in their children, and was
designed to distinguish children with clearly normal functioning from those who may have a
learning problem or disability.
As the first step in an evaluation process, the inventory was designed to be brief, easily
administered, and cost-effective, to benefit Thai educators, physicians, nurses, phychologists, and
others who hopy to identify children in need of more intensive diagnostic assessment. These are
children who may profit from early intervention or special services.
