In the present work, undoped base binary bismuth silicate glass (Bi2O3 70_SiO2 30 mol%) and samples of the same composition containing additional 0.2% of one of the 3d TM oxides were prepared
and characterized by combined optical and FT infrared absorption spectral measurements to find out the valence and coordination states of these 3d transition metal ions in this host glass. Also, the work involves studies on the effect of gamma irradiation (8Mrad) on the same combined spectral measurements. The present study will be expected to justify the induced defects generated by the irradiation process from the base glass or from the the 3d-transition metals doped samples.
