CONCLUSIONS
Fail-safe window comparators have been
proposed as logic devices to construct a majority
operation circuit for redundant system processing in
a fault-tolerant system and concrete methods of logic
device construction have been discussed. In addition,
the construction of a voter circuit in a 2-out-of-3
circuit by the window comparators has been
described as a concrete example. The fault detection
of the logical sum or OR cannot be performed by
binary majority operation. In the majority operation
discussed in this paper, summation is applied to the
OR operation and any fault in the results of
summation are detected by multiple-threshold value
operation using the above-mentioned window
comparators. In the majority operation circuit
shown in this paper, inspection signals signifying the
normal condition disappear when one of the input
signals given by a triple redundant system is different
from the other input signals or when one of the
majority operation circuit components constructed by
a triple redundant system is faulty. Furthermore,
output signals and fault inspection signals produced
by a single redundant system can be provided with
such fail-safe characteristics that the output voltage
disappears when a fault occurs in any of the elements
that comprise the majority operation circuit.
