Bio fuel Energy
Russia has been developing biogas power generation since the 1960s, although this
technology has only started gaining popularity after the year 2000. Today the company ZAO
Signal is the main researcher and producer for biogas facilities.3
Russia's bio fuel industry showed a notable development in recent years. As one of the
largest grain and increasingly rapeseed producers with a well-developed ethyl alcohol
industry, Russia has a great potential in this sector. In 2008 the government launched a
national program to support bio fuel production, pledging to build 30 additional bio fuel plants
and refurbish existing facilities.4 Unfortunately, these plans were delayed in 2010. Other
planned projects aim to use timber byproducts to produce bio butanol
