3.4. Chitinase production and activity
Wheat bran, colloidal chitin and nematode eggs induce the growth and chitinase production. Results showed that in liquid
minimal medium supplemented with colloidal chitin, the maximum chitinase (1.15 U/min per ml) production per day was
observed at 4th day, but enzyme production at the same level was continued until 5 days after incubation and then started to decrease. Activities between 0.1 and 1.2 U/min ml were found among these experiments. In liquid minimal medium supplemented with nematode eggs, the maximum chitinase (0.85 U/min per ml) production per day was observed at 4th day, but enzyme production at the same level was continued until 7 days after incubation and then started to decrease (Fig. 6).
