There were some challenges in this development. First, they needed a breakthrough of the weakness of their technical development base. Sankyo only had molding techniques for electrical heaters and Bakelite, so development of the lamp started from nothing. The second challenge was development of a sales channel. Since sankyo had never dealt with bicycle part, they had no dealer network established. Thirdly, there had already been many competitors producing in the market including matsushita, sankyo, Mitsubishi, and hayakawa. In total 17 companies were already producing.
