Without adopting a life cycle approach finding these results
would not have been possible. In fact, the international reference
standards for GHG monitoring, such as the GHG Protocol [15] and
the ISO 14064, part 1 [16], oblige the organization to monitor and
report only direct emissions from its direct activities and indirect
emissions from energy consumption. The organization is then free
to choose to monitor (or not monitor) the other indirect processes
in its supply chain.
