It is now recognized that the anthropogenic emissions of
greenhouse gases are involved in the global warming
problem. Combustion of fossil fuels, oil refinery, iron and
steel plant, cement, lime and natural gas productions are
the principal sources of CO2 releases. Fossil fuels are used
for power generation, transport, heating and many other
purposes. Moreover, coal remains available for several
hundred years. For these reasons, it is important that there
should be technology options that would allow continued
use of fossil fuels without substantial emissions of CO2.
