The suitability of different solid silicone rubbers and cross-linking systems for the processing in extrusion blow
moulding is basically analysed and evaluated in current research activities at IKV. Based on the material
requirements of the blow moulding process, solid silicone rubbers with different shore hardness and molecular
structure are chosen and characterised in combination with a peroxide cross-linking system. To improve the
properties of the silicone rubbers during forming, the rubber compounds are defined preliminary cross-linked. Inrheological and mechanical tests, the influences of the cross-linking system, the shore hardness, the molecular
structure and especially of the preliminary cross-linking on the material behaviour of the rubber are determined. The
simplified analysis and description of the forming process of the solid silicone rubbers takes place in thermoforming.
An overview of some basic results is discussed in this paper
