The choice of filler metal for any application is a compromise involving metallurgical compatibility, suitability for the intended service, and cost. The tensile and impact properties, corrosion resistance, and electrical or thermal conductivities that are required in a particular weldment also must be considered. Thus, the filler metal must suit both the alloy to be welded and the intended service.
