Detectable levels of harmful DSTs (OA or PTX-2)
were found in all samples except the processed razorfish (Table 2), which only contained detectable
levels of PTX-2 seco acid. There were no detectable
levels of okadaic acid esters in scallops or the
processed razorfish sample. No DTXs, DA, GYM or
YTXs were detected in any sample. The whole Pacific
oyster sample was found to be above the regulatory
limit of 0.2 mg/kg for DSTs. This is the first reported
violation of the regulatory limit for DSTs in SA. The
other results reported here are well below the
regulatory limit; however, it should be noted that
these results were from a small sample set and were
only collected once during the bloom.
