Biogas is a gas typically comprised of 60% methane (CH4) and 40% carbon dioxide (CO2). It is a product of the natural decomposition of any organic substance of animal or plant origin due to the activity of anaerobic bacteria (functioning in a non-oxygen environment). Major sources of methane are animal excrement, waste landfills, and any other organic material that is left untreated.
Factors affecting biogas production
There are several factors affecting the biogas production. These factors are both chemical factors (organic nutrient concentration, pH, alkalinity (A), VFA, and toxic substances) and physical factors (mixing, temperature, and digestion time)
