Design of Imprints Collection
Imprints Collection is the scientific and academic record of the Institute since 1972. There
has been a considerable shift in focus in the areas of research since the demise of C V
Raman. The shift is from fundamental research in physical sciences to multidisciplinary
research in physical sciences. This gradual change in the direction of research over the
years is well depicted in the data contained in the “Imprints Collection”.
The opening page of this information product entitled “Imprints Collection” listing
the names of the retired scientists appears as seen in Figure 3. This page can be
accessed at: www.rri.res.in/htmls/library/imprints_collection/
Each of the names of the scientists is linked to a second web page. So a click on the
name of any scientist will take the viewer to the second page. For example a click on
Prof. Radhakrishnan’s name will take the viewer to the next page titled with the name
of the scientist. A screenshot of Prof. Radhakrishnan’s page is given in Figure 4.
Throughout the narration here in this paper, we take the example of Prof.
Radhakrishnan to elucidate various components of Imprints Collection.
This second page acts as the main page of information for individual scientists
providing a biographical sketch which includes date of birth, names of parents, place of
birth and any worthwhile information. His/her early years and education, career path,
scientific achievements, membership with any learned bodies, information on any
awards conferred on them are covered in this page. This page also provides further
links to their list of publications, list of research students guided by them, photo
gallery, lectures, newspaper clippings etc. The right hand top corner of the opening
page presents a photograph of the scientist together with a concise but self-explanatory
biographic profile for a quick reference. Another very important component on this
Figure 3.
