hen 34-year-old Christopher Maloney stepped on stage before the X-Factor UK audience, it was awkward to say the least.
Maloney was shaking like a leaf and visibly close to tears. I thought he was going to quit before he even got started, but luckily the judges gave the shy, nervous man the benefit of the doubt.
Unsurprisingly, the road to the X-Factor stage didn’t come easy for Maloney. He refused to try out for more than 5 years and when he finally mustered up the courage, he ended up not going. It wasn’t until tragedy struck that Maloney knew it was finally time to take that chance. At Maloney’s grandfather’s funeral the song “The Rose” by Bette Midler was played and it really touched his heart. After moving in with his grandmother to care for her, she helped Maloney find the courage and confidence to take that chance.
Performing in front of an audience, judges, and TV cameras can be seriously nerve-wracking, but just like shy salesman Paul Potts, those nerves helped Maloney to put on the show of a lifetime. He chose to sing “The Rose” for his grandma and in honor of his late grandfather, because she always believed in him.
I’ve seen a lot of amazing talent show auditions but I’ve honestly never seen an audience go this crazy before. Just spectacular!
