Leader: Good afternoon everybody. Today we will be talking about………. Okay, are we ready to start?
All: Yes.
Leader: A, what do you think about the topic?
A: In my opinion, this topic is quite suitable because it can guide the readers what two subjects will be compared.
B: I agree with you, A, because it's easy to understand what paragraph say.
C: I think so.
D: you’re right, B
Leader: does anyone have anything to add?
All: no.
Leader: Okay, could we move on to the topic sentence. What’s your opinion about topic sentence?
C: In my opinion, this topic sentence is unsuitable, because it’s unclear. It’s seem that the first sentence is an introducing idea.
Leader: Could you explain what the introducing idea is?
C: It’s like the general introduction of the paragraph, but the author says nothing about the comparison between Colorado and Japanese Ski Conditions.
D: So, there is no topic sentence.
Leader: I think so, B what do you think about supporting ideas?
B: It seems to me that there are three supporting ideas which are the type of snow, the time to playing ski and the condition. Does anyone have anything to add?
A: The writer should use signal words like first, second, third to connect the ideas.
D: The ideas are rather consistent because the writer uses some transitions such as Moreover and according to.
C: Yes, you made a good point, D, but I also would like to add he should use more transitions because it is an academic paragraph.
A: the writer can also compare another point such as activities.
B: I think so, because the supporting details are not interesting and too simple.
D: I totally agree with you, B.
Leader: Okay, could we talk about the next point.
All: Of cause.
Leader: What’s your opinion about the concluding sentence?
D: Personally, I think that there is no concluding sentence. The author should sum up the main points.
C: Do we all agree?
A,B,Leader: definitely yes!
Leader: B, would you like to give us your opinion about language?
B: In my opinion, there are some mistake in this paragraph such as ‘like’ in lie 2 should change into ‘such as’, ‘easy’ in lie 4 should change into easier.
A: You’re right, B. there are many mistake in this paragraph, for example; lie 13 to lie 15 not belong to the paragraph
C: I think this paragraph is quite to follow and it will be one of the good paragraphs if the author has a clear topic sentence and a clear concluding sentence.
D: And also the signal words.
Leader: So, we have decided that this paragraph is the good one but the writer should highlight the paragraph structure and use signal words.
