Strong attendance and leadership composition were
vital for success during these early planning meetings.
Attending these meetings were physician and nursing
leadership, operational leaders, and performance excellence
consultants. Nursing administration sponsored
the project and provided budgetary and logistical support.
The SOS is the theoretical framework underpinning
the improvement work and is shown in Figure 1.
The SOS constitutes 2 distinct yet inseparable components,
the improvement system and the management
system. A description of concepts within each
of these components follows.
