Interestingly, a large number of studies examined
whether adolescents who lived in urban centres
were more likely to be sexually experienced than
those who lived in rural areas. The majority of
these studies measured current place of residence,
although four studies also examined the childhood
place of residence. Results of these studies show
that for both current and childhood residence, living
in an urban area was significantly associated with
the likelihood that an adolescent is sexually experienced,
although this conclusion is more robust for
childhood residence.
For example, of the
12 studies which
looked at the association
between current
residence and sexual
activity, four found
no relationship
