In continuation of this project, the aim
of the present study concerns the preparation of different types
of composites obtained both by encapsulation of modified colloidal
silica of submicronic size by CS or by surface-condensation
of 4-triethoxysilylbutyronitrile and subsequent transformation to
carboxyl-grafted silica by hydrolysis of the nitrile groups. The characterizationand
investigationofthe properties ofthese silica-based
materials is described and their efficiency for Ni(II) removal from
aqueous solution is evaluated.
