Deserts are very dry and hot places with sand. They cover almost one-fifth of the Earth's surface. Deserts have extreme temperature. During the day, it may reach 50C and at night, it might drop to freezing point. Only cacti and some bushes can survive here. They have special adaptations to find and store water.
Snakes, insects, lizards and desert mice live here. Many burrow into the sand to avoid the heat. Some are nocturnal. They sleep during the hot day and hunt at night.
