Single crystals of La2 – хBixMo2O9 (х = 0.04
(LM : 2%Bi), 0.06 (LM : 3%Bi), and 0.18 (LM :
9%Bi)] were obtained by spontaneous flux crystalliza
tion in the La2O3–MoO3–Bi2O3 system according to
the procedure in [9]. Note that the metastable cubic
βms phase of LM : 2%Bi single crystals can be obtained
only by the fast cooling of crystals as opposed to
those of LM : 3%Bi and LM : 9%Bi single crystals.
According to the data of differential scanning calorim
etry, which were confirmed by studies with a polariza
tion microscope, crystals of the βms phase of LM : 2%Bi
go into the α phase at 450°С. Crystals of LM : 3%Bi
and LM : 9%Bi, which exist at room temperature in
the metastable cubic βms phase, at a temperature near
450°С go into the hightemperature cubic β phase.
The chemical analysis of the crystals grown was deter
mined on a Camebax SX50 microanalyzer (Cameca)
at an accelerating voltage of 15 kV and a probe current
of 30 nA.
