The upper limit of the tension perpendicular strength is also that of the source wood. However, in these experiments, where the composite 2-ply samples were made from peeled veneers, the tension perpendicular values were considerably lower than the values reported for solid wood (16) (Table 6). The probable reasons for the low tension perpendicular values are damage to the wood structure during veneer manufacture and insufficient penetration of the adhesive to repair the damage.
