Results show that crops in the delta are irrigated with hoses and
sprinklers using surface water. Yet a majority of the respondents
indicated that they are suffering from droughts and salinization,
which could be attributed to a shortage of usable surface water,
insufficient water allocation for farmers, overuse of farmland, and
seawater infiltrating into groundwater aquifers underneath agri-
cultural lands. The household survey presented here could not
reveal which of these processes are threatening agriculture activ-
ities, although future studies could include questions if the rural
population is aware of such processes and water management
policies and how this adversely affects the land usability.
