Then is for when. See! They are both spelled with 'hen!' The hen went in the pen when it started to rain (there was Netflix, wine & men in the pen & she was a happy hen then, but then again, she was not a lesbian).
Than is for comparisons. See! They both are spelled with A! A camel is bigger than a hen. But then, a camel is biggger than most men.
