A significant decrease in pH relative with the higher density was observed (Table 2). Bacterial population is supposed to increase in the same way that stock densities due to higher food inputs and consequently higher availability of nutrients. Therefore, bacterial respiration rate probably increased the CO2 concentration resulting in a corresponding decrease in pH. This decrease in pH, even in the higher density group, did not affect alkalinity levels among groups (Table 2).
