4.31 Physical Security, Alarms Systems & Video Surveillance Cameras
Alarm systems and video surveillance cameras should be utilized to monitor premises and prevent unauthorized access to cargo handling and storage areas.
• Offices monitor activity using security cameras and security personnel, and/or alarms.
• Alarm systems are designed, installed, and monitored to provide a reasonable assurance that any unauthorized access will be detected by these systems. Access codes for alarm systems are controlled by General Affairs or a third party security provider. When activated, the alarms provide an audible signal and notify building management or security.
• General Affairs will ensure that access cards or codes are made available only to those personnel with a demonstrated need and proper authorization. Human Resources will coordinate with General Affairs and Information Systems to ensure that employee access cards or codes are returned or changed at the termination of employment as applicable.
• Management will assess the need for system-wide access code changes, as necessary.
• Cameras are usually monitored by security personnel or other designated employees.
Tapes are normally retained for three months in the New York office, 30 days in the Seattle office, and 14 days in the Portland office.
• Procedures are in place for regular testing of alarms and cameras.
