The maximum overall sugar recovery yields from the bark-rich sawmill (a mixture of Hemlock hog fuel and pin chips by 85% and 15%, respectively) were 13.6 g of
glucose (46% theoretical maximum), 10.5 g of mannose and galactose (98% theoretical maximum), and 2.8 g of xylose (85% theoretical maximum) out of 100 g of dry raw feedstock. These results provide the basic information for converting bark-rich softwood residues into value-added products through enzyme and fermentation processes.
