In plants such as
Vracbiaria decumbens, it was observed that there was
thickening of exodermis and endodermis, increase of
intercellular spaces in the cortex and strong lignifications
of exodermis cells (Degenhardt et al., 2000; Gomes et
al., 2011). The successful development of agriculture in
disadvantaged areas depends on selection of appropriate
crops and crop varieties that are resistant to the effects of
salinity. Selection of salt tolerant crop varieties of agricultural
crops is one of the most effective tools for improving
productivity of these soils. It is important to study the
effect of salinity on growth and anatomical structure and
to use physiological, anatomical and molecular studies to
select tolerance to salinity agricultural crop varieties for
cultivation in saline soils. The present investigation was,
therefore, undertaken to study the effect of salinity on the
growth and anatomical structure of widely cultivated barley
varieties in Kazakhstan. The objective of the present work
was to determine the peculiarities of growth and anatomical
structure of barley cultivars under saline conditions.
