UNICEF’s approach to preventing and responding to violence,
exploitation and abuse is guided by the Child Protection Strategy
(2008)19, approved by UNICEF’s Executive Board. The strategy informs
and guides the actions of the Member States of the United Nations
(UN) and is aligned with the child protection efforts of civil society and
other actors. Specifically, UNICEF’s strategy aims to strengthen child
protection systems as powerful tools to end to violence, exploitation
and abuse in their multiple forms and across all contexts (including
humanitarian). The strategy also addresses societal factors and social
norms that perpetuate violence as well as promotes positive social
change and outcomes.
