4.1.1. Dilution effect
‘Dilution effect’ describes situations where enhanced nutrient
uptake is masked at the whole plant-level due to concurrent
increases in plant biomass (Azcon et al., 2003; Chen et al., 2003;
Nogueira et al., 2004). In our study, differences in biomass due to
AM fungi were almost exclusively not significant compared to control
plants (Figs. 3 and 4), thus it is unlikelythat the dilution effect
significantly influences our results.
