In cellular systems, underlay opportunistic networks such as femtocells can absorb a significant amount of traffic [10]. Furthermore, off grid cellular technologies have already tested RES and battery supply at the BS level for autonomous operation [11]. This architecture can support smart grid concepts where the femtocell capacity can act as the ‘local bandwidth generation’ of the prosumer and the RESs of the BSs can act as the DG of the network.
