Jamaica was chosen for the site of research because it had one of the largest collections of four-star and five-star properties in the Caribbean. The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association was contacted and it provided the researcher a list of 4-star and 5- star hotels employing expatriate general managers. Four-star and five-star properties were selected as the basis of the research because most of them are managed by expatriates. Snowball sampling was used to identify other hotels that had expatriate general managers. For this procedure, existing study participants recommended future participants from among their acquaintances [36]. In total, 19 general managers were sent emails asking if they wanted to participate in the research. Nine general managers responded and agreed to participate. All the participants represented four-star and five-star properties in Negril and in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
