The island has just a few low hills (thus its name, which means 'plank' in Chao Lay). With fine corals and long, lazy beaches, Kradan Island offers the recreational snorkeler plenty of opportunity to sightsee under in the water. At low tide the beach seems to go on forever, and the crystal-clear turquoise waters make a wonderful way to pass the time. With more than two kilometers of beach to explore, there's plenty of beachcombing to be done.
How beautiful are Koh Kradan's beaches? The fact that resorts from other islands, as far away as Koh Lanta, bring guests here to lounge for the day is one indication.
It's also known for one of the most unusual wedding ceremonies in the world. Every Valentine's Day since 1997, lovers searching for a unique way to get married take part in the 'Underwater Wedding Ceremony"- taking their vows in scuba gear 12 metres under the surface.
Much of the jungle is untouched; some paths wind through the forest, allowing you to see birds, snakes, monitor lizards, and other wildlife.
As it is a national park, you may be asked to pay a 200-baht entrance fee by park rangers should you stray off the main beach.
Koh Kradan may be the most laid-back of the resort islands in the Andamans. There's not a lot to see or do- but isn't that the point? Wander the beach, lounge in a hammock, go to the beautiful Sunset Beach and watch the day pass into night. It's time to fall in love.
