The decisions that need to be made are (i) optimal pack-house for a grower, (ii) optimal cool-store for a pack-house. The aim of the model is to minimize the total transportation costs generated by this allocation. Another aim is to determine and minimize the total liability costs (Piramuthu et al., 2013). Liability costs depend on the node of the supply chain, at which perished kiwifruits are detected. The more time it takes to determine this node (probably with less accurate or inefficient method of traceability medium), the liability costs become higher. These liability costs can be calculated using the traceability information generated from the Bar-codes and RFID-tag (Piramuthu et al., 2013). Since RFID tags are more accurate and speedy than the Bar-codes, a comparison is made between the liability costs generated by the two mediums. Further, we need to find the trade-off between the two types of costs.
