Team Singapore's rhythmic gymnasts dominated proceedings at the Bishan Sports Hall to win the country's first-ever group all-around gold medal on Sunday (Jun 14) .
Exclusively for women, rhythmic gymnastics is an amalgamation of ballet, gymnastics and dance. In the group competition, gymnasts have to execute smooth exchange of apparatus with fellow team members, while performing their routines.
The group all-around finals consisted of two rotations. The rhythmic gymnasts had to compete with ribbons in the first rotation, and with clubs and hoops in the second rotation.The team comprising of Dawne Chua, Noelle Goh, Edlyn Ho, Ann Sim and Alison Tang gave a stunning performance; the crowd "oohed" and "wowed" as they flipped and tumbled their way to bag the gold medal for Singapore.
The team scored a total of 27.700 points - 14.350 in the first rotation (ribbons) and 13.350 in the second rotation (clubs and hoops). Malaysia clinched the silver medal with 27.400 points, while Thailand finished third with 22.150 points in the 3-team competition.
