The selection of fin is often motivated by a desire
to minimize the fin material and/or related manufacturing
costs required to achieve a prescribed
cooling effectiveness. The pin fin was found to best
enhance the heat transfer rate. Nevertheless, its
advantage is offset by the high manufacturing cost.
Hence, a straight triangular fin is attractive because,
for equivalent heat transfer, it requires much less
volume (fin materials) than a rectangular profile. In
this regard heat dissipation per unit volume is
largest for a parabolic profile. However, since the
heat dissipation per unit volume for the parabolic
profile is only slightly larger than that for a
triangular profile, its use can rarely be justified in
view of its larger manufacturing cost [8].
