Festival de las flores in Medellin. Colombia, celebrates the county's beautiful flowers. The festival takes place every August and lasts for about ten days. The celebration includes parades, a pageant, and of course, amazing flower arrangements Colombians first celebrated the Festival of the Flowers on May 1, 1957, when 40 peasants formed a parade to show off the colorful flowers they carried from town to town. Howerver, summer is the season when Colombians celebrate their independence from Spain So in 1958 officials moved the festival's date to celebrate the two holidays together. A populay event during the festival is the parade of silletas, or huge flower arrangements. One of the best things to do during the festival is watch the sillateras, or the flower workers, create their flower art.
