Neuschwanstein is one of the world's most famous castles. Set on a hill in Füssen, Germany, it is a majestic building surrounded by the Bavarian Alps. The castle was commissioned by King Ludwig II and was opened to visitors after his death in 1886. The former king had build the castle as a private refuge hidden in Germany's mountains, but it now hosts 1.3 million visitors a year. The view from afar is breathtaking -- especially in the snow-blanketed winter months.
