Silk is the only natural fiber available in filament form. The fibrous waste generated by the extraction process (reeling) and rearing is converted into yarns using a spinning process. In addition, a few varieties of silk are spun to produce yarns. This chapter deals with advances in the spinning process used for the production of silk and blended yarn. Due to the delicate nature and fineness of silk, different precautions are taken during the weaving of silk. Advances in the conversion processes—such as weaving, knitting, and nonwoven processing of silk—have been covered in this chapter..
