Some say that to remain unmarried is not natural. Therefore they hold that those who are celibates are
living unnatural lives. It is true that there are more
people who get married than who remain single. That
does not make one natural and the other unnatural.
Both getting married and remaining single are
equally valid and natural ways of living our human existence. Sipe, a psychiatrist and world-renowned
author, has noted that remaining without mating is a natural phenomenon even among insects and animals. Thus for example, among lions, some members of the pride remain without mating to spend their energies for the protection and care of their kin.
Sexual bonding and reproduction are the norm in nature, but not a universal or invariable norm. By nature some males and females are not meant to bond or reproduce. This natural determination is a variant designed for the good of the group. (Sipe, 1996, pp. 35-36)
