bamboo displayed much greater hydrolysis yield than did the
untreated bamboo for every test bamboo ages. The cellulose-toglucose
conversion yield (CGCY) after 48 h of hydrolysis of the
NaOH + UHPE pretreated substrate was still substantially higher
than those of the NaOH pretreated bamboo, respectively. The
NaOH + UHPE pretreated substrate contained higher vessel area,
had a much lower cellulose degree of polymerization, and might
be assumed to have a better enzymatic hydrolyzability. However,
as we know, compared to bamboo shoots and 2-year-old bamboo,
5-year-old bamboo has the higher density, hardness and lignin
content, which maybe caused incomplete hydrolysis of cellulose
in 5-year-old bamboo substrates.
