hat shaped CFRP tubes. The typical load–displacement curve, failure
modes and effect of thickness on crashworthiness were
explored for such an irregular sectional configuration through both
axial crushing and transverse bending tests. The differences of
axial and transverse energy absorption capabilities and peak loads
were quantified for comparison. Within the limitation of the study,
the following conclusions can be drawn:
