Abstract:
Municipal solid waste conversion to manure and fuel is gaining increased attention in India and abroad. Solid waste conversion to
manure results into stabilized organic material which physically resembles soil or humus material and is used most often as a soil
amendment. Most of the readily decomposable organic matter in the fed stock is consumed during manure formation. The
material remaining represents a stabilized organic material. The manure resulting from municipal solid waste and sludge will be
free from pathogens. It is mandated that ‘A’ Class municipal council should make proper provision to dispose solid waste after
proper treatment so that immunization of diseases and pollution abatement can be achieved. Solid waste management is very
important part of environment cleanliness. If it is not properly handled nuisance caused to smell, insects & mosquitoes breeding,
which is very harmful to human health. Also deposition of solid waste makes problems in handling and space management. This
paper focuses on technology which municipalities can adopt to convert solid waste in to manure and refuse derived fuel (RDF)
